ZEOcat powder produts of Zeochem AG

Volatile Organic Compounds are materials which evaporate readily from commonly occurring sources such as vehicle exhausts, cleaning agents, furniture polish and fabric softeners. These also include solvents used in coatings, as well as thinners and brush cleaners. In the presence of sunlight, these VOCs can react with nitrogen oxides to create ground level ozone and photochemical smogs. These in turn can contribute to pollution of the atmosphere.

Catalytic gas cleaning finds it's use in industrial size air cleaning units, such as in modern spray painting cabinets in the car industry but not only. The comparable low energy demand needed for the chemical reaction is an important advantage of these materials. One small disadvantage is perhaps the higer investment cost and it's sensitiveness for contamination, the so called catalyst poisoning.

As an example we can take the exhaust cleaning by a 3-way catalyzer of Otto motors. It consists of a ceramic body which is coated with Platinum or Rhodium etc. The chemical reaction takes place at the surface highly accelarated and at low energy supply. The CO present in the exhaust gas is then converted to CO2, and the NOx is reduced to N2.

In contrary to earlier time no organic lead bondings are used anymore, thus avaoiding the poisoning of the catalyzer.

Zeochem AG has long been an important player in the Zeolite adsorbents business and is also becoming ever more well-known and respected for their quality in producing zeolites for the hydrophobic catalyst and adsorbents markets.

There are two ranges of products covering these applications, and they are characterised by the ZEOca®t and ZEOflair® ranges.

These special High Silica Zeolites of unusual crystal structure have become an important part of the ZEOCHEM® product portfolio. These products are characterised by their hydrophobic nature. They are more acidic than the standard A and X types; and they possess a high active surface area. Add to this good kinetics, and excellent thermal stability; and one can see why these products are highly regarded in a number of catalytic applications.

While the ZEOcat® range is extensive, it covers the better known ZSM-5 types, Beta, Mordenite and L-type structures. Zeochem AG offers the full range of zeolite powders and beads in a variation of SiO2/Al2O3 mol ratio

ZEOflair® products are designed for the adsorption of organic odours from gases, from plastic formulations (added to master batches) and surfaces. It is also very well introduced in the adsorber wheel manufacturing industry for VOC adsorption in an air purification unit with high volume throughput and low concentration of VOC. A rotor adsorber of suitable size is separated in a number of segments: a segment for adsorption, a segment for regeneration with a hot gas, and a segment for cooling to ambient temperature. A quick search on the internet will provide a number of examples for such rotor adsorber units. One needs to know the size of molecules that must be removed from the air stream, and accordingly is is not very difficult to find out which type of zeolite powder or -bead must be used. Please check the correct type, either ZEOflair® 100, ZEOflair® 200 or ZEOflair® 300.
